They are staying!!!!!!
THEY ARE STAYING!!! Can you hear my joy, my relief, my excitement? A couple of weeks before I even expected approaching H. with any definite plans regarding the kittens... the decision was made unexpectedly easily, smoothly and joyfully on Friday.
Surely being being away and relaxing from home and the usual daily stuff helped... :)
Seriously, I didn't have much hope.... no expectations.... I didn't push my H. (I mean not too much LOL!)... I let things happen by themselves.... and the little fellows knew how to find a way to his heart... Oh that's maybe not precise, H. loves them a lot! But keeping them, well... only a few days ago he was saying "no, I don't want cats now" (meaning problems when he travels for work etc.)....
But then Felinek (H's favorite, the sweetest, softest one), the black kitten, put a whole plan into action... He started sleeping on H., waking him up by walking over his face and licking it softly till H. woke up to see a pair of tiny black eyes observing him... He developed a system of jumping on H's knees and purring, looking him in the eyes with love, presenting his belly to scratch, miowling distinctively to get water/food/go out etc. And giving so much love...
THEY ARE STAYING!! Both, together, not separated (how could we?)... in Norway. We'll do the whole veterinary procedure anyway just so they can travel abroad in case of emergency.
The plan is the following. I and H. will fly to Warsaw with Happy and Toska on Sept. 14th and lots of my luggage, H. will return to Norway in some days, the kittens will stay at a nice cat pension for the few days. I think I'll only stay in Warsaw one-two-three weeks, then I'll travel to my aunt+++ for a month or so to help with my grandma (if nothing wrong happens till then, what can you know at the tender age of 100,5 - her condition suddenly worsened recently). And then to my father for Christmas... after that I'll be back in Norway for a couple of months.... spring in Poland... back for summer 2010 to Norway... :)
As you see, I'll have to be particularly careful with giving the right addresses for exchanges and such! LOL
We still don't have a good name for the grey kitten - Huggy doesn't seem to work well, because Happy comes immediately :) We'd like a name that is funny but warm at the same time... If you have any ideas, please leave them in the comments... I promise I'll read all!! Any name related to his grey color is not nice enough (charcoal, smokey, cashmere etc.) and I can't seem to be able to find the right-sounding name at all! He's smart, courageous, strong, lovely... and beautiful! :)
Now, how did we end up with THREE cats and a dog?
I tell you. Miracles happen. But then, these kitties are really, really special.
Want to see the two brothers on vacation here in the wilderness? Scroll down :)
Exploring barns and all sorts of weird places is very important.... How did he get there?? There is no floor or stairs leading to the upper floor of this old barn...
Told you, lots of weird places...
Happy did his best to control what the cats were doing...
But sometimes dogs weren't allowed in!
Also sometimes, they found really scary things in the fields...
But generally, things went fine, the exploration went on for many hours each day....
They also learned to climb....
Yup, they're having a good time here. Still two days of vacation before we all return home...

Oooh Anna, I'm so happy for you and the kittens!! That's wonderful news!
How wonderful!!! Been thinking of names, then reread and you want funny but warm. How about Siggy (for Siegfreid) or Ziggy - my favorite cartoon character. I was thinking you have Tosca, so perhaps Puccini? Loki? Aeneas, just kept popping into my head. So if not Huggy, how about Paddy? Pawl? Monsieur Mew? Usually pretty good at coming up with animals names. Must be lost in the translation somewhere. :D
Since this will be primarily H's cat, what is H's nickname for him?
I'm a firm believer in naming animals who reside in the same household with names that start with distinctly different sounds for the precise reason H-appy immediately responds to H-uggy. I discovered years ago that all I had to say what the starting vowel or consonant of any word and my dogs responded before I got the rest of the word out. I swear I could think the word "walk" and I had bouncing around my feet.
Ok, out of ideas! Congratulations!! Hugs!
That's so great that you are keeping them, and that they will stay together! No names come to mind now unfortunately!
So glad you are keeping them. All things will fall into place and work out. When I was little I had a grey one, more grey than yours and she was named Twinkles.
No real cat names come to mind for me but he looks like a Thomas. Glad you are keeping them both!
Congratulations with that decision. What a funny story. After being away from blogging for a while I read it all up in one go. Was a great way to fill my morning coffee time. And I would have been exactly the same. That's a bit how we ended up with 2 dogs and 3 cats somehow...lol.
I agree with Linda...and like Ziggy a lot. Don't ask me why, but somehow I think that name would fit him.
Et voilà une bonne et heureuse issue de cette histoire ! Profitez bien de leur présence et bon courage pour la suite ! Bises !
What wonderful news. I can not pick a favorite of the two, but I do love grey-colored cats.Perhaps because I do not have one of that color....yet!!
The name "Seal" comes to mind. From a wonderful TV series called "Sarah, Plain and Tall" about a woman in early 1900's who travels from her native state of Maine to marry a widower in the West. Her cat is all gray and named Seal.
My two littlest ones are this week at the Vet having a "vacation" while I am here with my parents. I suppose that they are not enjoying themselves as much as I am.
Anna, I am so happy you decided to keep both kitties! I thought maybe you would want to give Huggy a more Norwegian-sounding name since that's where you found them. There are some ideas here: http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Estates/6913/nordic.htm.
I like "Loki" but there are lots of other names...
I'm so happy for you Anna, I prayed that H would come around. And cats have a quick way to worm their way into an unsuspecting heart! The grey kitty has chubby little cheeks, you could name him Cheeky!
I'm so happy, it makes me want another kitty!
Hugs,
Donna
For a name suggestion I would like to put forward "Beanie". I once had a gorgeous male tabby who was the sweetest most affectionate cat and his name was Mr Bean or Beanie for short, because he was also very funny.
Glad to hear you are keeping the cats, and that they will be together.
I vote for Grayson.
p.s. I hope you are feeding the boys canned cat food. Males are more susceptible to Feline Urinary Tract disorders (infection, stones) and dry food doesn't provide enough water. (I learned this the hard way, my cat is fine now.)
I am so glad that a happy and united decision was reached! Hooray!!! :D
(That Barbara is me, btw, LOL).
